The Lincoln Motion Picture Company

The Lincoln Motion Picture Company (LMPC) 1915-1923 was one of the first successful black owned race film production companies of its time. Their successes helped to define the race film genre that in turn paved the way for black artists in Hollywood. George Johnson was brother to LMPC founder and the first major black film star, Noble Johnson, and became accountant, distributor, producer and archivist for the company during and after it’s run. Others that played a large role in the company included: actor Clarence A. Brooks as secretary, Dr. James T. Smith as treasurer, and Dudley A. Brooks as assistant secretary.
